16th Annual Backpack Giveaway and Nonprofit Community Resource Fair
Join us on August 3rd, 2024, at Sloan's Lake Park in Denver, CO, for the Silva Family Foundation's 16th Annual Community School Supply Giveaway!
Rev. Dr. and Mrs. Silva have stood steadfast in their commitment to stand in the educational gap for Colorado’s youth for over 30 years. The Silva Family Foundation was created from the societal barriers and challenges that Rev. Dr. Silva endured as a homeless youth and a survivor of gun violence in Denver, Colorado.
The Silva Family Foundation has given out over 25,000 backpacks of school supplies in 15 years. This year, over 3,500 backpacks filled with essential school supplies will be distributed. Let's support Colorado's youth together! For more information, please contact jsilva@generationschools.org
Child(ren) must be present, accompanied by a parent/guardian, and each student will receive one backpack (no household limit).

Celebrate House Bill 24-1216 Becoming Law!
Join us for a Ceremonial Bill Signing to celebrate the Justice Engaged Student Bill of Rights becoming Colorado state law!

At the Ceremonial Bill Signing, we will not only highlight the new legislation, but also discuss the forthcoming impact due to the unwavering commitment of our stakeholders. This event symbolizes the beginning of a codified pathway to high school completion for justice-engaged students, ensuring they have the support they need to succeed.
We’ll be joined by Representative Jennifer Bacon, Representative Tim Hernandez, and Senator James Coleman, as well as members of the community and families. Come celebrate this historic achievement and learn about the impact this new legislation will have on justice engaged students.
Day of Action at the Colorado State Capitol for the Justice Engaged Student Bill of Rights (HB 24-1216)
Join us this Monday at the State Capitol!
Supporters of HB 24-1216, including justice engaged students and their families, co-sponsors Senator James Coleman and Representative Jennifer Bacon, and leaders of Generation Schools Network, will gather on the west steps of the State Capitol for a press conference from 1-2 pm. Afterwards, attendees will have time to meet with Colorado legislators to talk about the importance of this bill and how to pass this bill during this legislative session.

The GSN team will be attending the 2024 CADCA conference this month in support of a new bill making educational attainment for justice-engaged students a reality. This event includes a visit to congress on January 31st and meetings with senators Hickenlooper and Bennet and congresswoman deGette.
